Jamaican Government Shares TTFF Mission

While Trees That Feed Foundation has been working in Jamaica since our inception, now we have forged a relationship with the nation’s Forestry Department.

Partnering with Ainsley A. Henry, JP, CEO & Conservator of Forests, Jerome Smith, Principal Director of the Forest Operation Division, and their team has been energizing.

TTFF donated 8,000 fruit trees in support of the National Tree Planting Initiative (NTPI), part of the Government of Jamaica’s thrust to plant Three Million Trees in Three Years.

TTFF also donated 2,500 of our educational activity books called Plant a Tree and Good Things Happen for schoolchildren.

The Gleaner, one of the most-read news publications in Jamaica, recently published an article about the collaboration.

As quoted in the piece, Mr. Smith explained, “The Foundation distributes seedlings through partner nurseries and the Forestry Department will become one of those partners. How it works is that persons get a certificate from the Trees That Feed Foundation to go to partner nurseries for collection and very soon, persons with certificates from the Foundation will be able to visit our three nurseries in St. Andrew, St. Ann, and Manchester to collect.”

In 2022, TTFF distributed more than 25,000 fruit trees in Jamaica. Working with the Forestry Department will enable us to fulfill even more tree requests.

The appreciation is mutual. The Forestry Department honored TTFF as a “Forest Hero” at its Forest Heroes Awards ceremony, which closed out the inaugural staging of the National Forestry Conference in December 2022.

As always, we thank you – our supporters – for making this very productive collaboration possible!
